Laoi na Seilge

Seo amhrán ón sean scéal Buille Suibhne. Cháill Rí Ulaidh, Subhne, a meabhair sa scéal seo mar gheall ar malacht Rónán Fhinn. Suas leis sna crainte ag maireachtáil mar éan. Tagann seana chomráid, Linseacháin, ar a thóir agus iarann sé air teacht anuas ón crann. Aililiú éanaí arsa Linseacháin ag iaradh a gheilt a mhealladh ón chrann.

Is trua liom thú a gheilt ghairbh
Ar an gconair ó thuaidh
Lá suas go hÉadan Tairbh
Lá go mean Sliabh Fuaidh

Aililiú éanaí aililiú éaraí
Hoch teidí dí éró
Parúsam praedidilí
Is mo lil na ló a ba bó

I mbun seilge is fia
Nó id leaba le do leannán
Tú a bheith gan leann gan bhia
Gan éadach gan bhróg mar dhán

I am pleased to announce a super new video recorded in The Model last year which has just been released. Here is The Táin at The Model

Returned to Glasgow this February to launch a new project named Oran Bagraidh; a project that began in Galloway last September, ensconced with ten other artists, in an old country lodge.

Scrutinising an enigmatic text in Galloway Gaelic we worked on a multilingual album which drew on the heritage of five nations and recorded an album eponymously named Oran Bagraidh.

There will be a few dates with Oran bagraidh this year in the UK and Ireland

My latest album Visionaries 1916 was released in The Pearse Museum on October 15th 2016. The album comes from the 1916 commission 1916 - Visionaries and Their Words, a show of music, archive visuals, and spoken word which received critical acclaim in Ireland and internationally. I will be touring the show 1916 - Visionaries and their Words around Easter 2017 to 5 venues in Ireland.

Dates for 'Visionaries' are posted to the right.

An attendee at the premier performance of one of Lorcán’s projects, An Táin, described the effect of his voice:

"Lorcan MacMathuna gathers from the air something which is older than the Tain - ageless, primaeval and haunting. He has caught and manifest for us a sound which is fundamental; which has existed since men and women first sang - sang to express what they felt and what they knew to be true. It is the music of mythology - all the cadences of history and prehistory residing in one man's voice. It calls to the soul. And the soul answers. And we are privileged to listen and to hear in our own blood and in the fibres of our understanding."

what people have said | reviews / testimonies

"It's powerful and stark, like it's been hewn out of the earth. Caoineadh Fherdia is like sitting with a death rattle; the lamentation gets you in the guts and bones... reminded me of the laments for the fallen played on the Northumbrian pipes on Remembrance Sunday; you've mined a deep tradition, but not in a stylised way - it's more visceral than that." -read testimonies

reviews Lorcán Mac Mathúna

"every now and again you need to be challenged and shaken from your reverie. You need to expose yourself to people that take a different direction and manage to take you with them. Lorcán and company have pushed the boundary but not to the point where they lose you. They have opened the door a little, and you have taken a glimpse..." - more reviews
